Entertainment Industry unite for Kefee; form committee for her burial
6/24/2014 8:55:00 AM

Over 100 members of the Nigerian entertainment industry gathered on Monday in Lagos to strategise on ways and means of giving late singer, Kefee, a befitting burial.

Some of the notable faces at the meeting were, Nikki Laoye, Tosin Martins, Emem Ema, Tee-Y Mix, DJ Gosporella, Wamilele, Princess, , Perry Martins, Praise Machine, Mudi, Righteousman, Nene Soul Diva, Victor Gospogroove, Gordons and representatives from Kefee's family. Continue...

Sammie noted that the death of Kefee has affected the Nigerian entertainment industry and the world over and not just the Gospel music community in Nigeria.
"Kefee was a major contributor to the development of entertainment in Nigeria and the industry will be there for her even in death. We are going to bury her as a queen and it would be nice for us to work together to make her burial a grand affair. It would also be nice to use this opportunity to get our acts together as Gospel artists and entertainers in general because that is what Kefee would love,'' he said.
Also speaking, Tosin Martins, suggested that activities in honour of Kefee should extend beyond the immediate burial plans to include a more robust an annual memorial symposium and other events which promote the interests and passion of Kefee for posterity's sake.

A committee called the 'Kefee Memorial Committee' (KMC) was thus constituted to plan the various events which would hold in Lagos and Sapele, the hometown of the late singer.

The members of the committee are: Sammie Okposo, Nikki Laoye, Commorade Rex Anighoro, Momodu Inu Noah, Tosin Martins, Anny Ibrahim, Joan Paul, Aity Dennis-Inyang, Emem Ema, Gbenga Akintokun, Tee-Y Mix, Tim Tehilla, DJ Gosporella, Praise Machine, Victor Gospogroove, Princess, Perry Martins, DJ Direal and journalist, Chilee Agunanna, who was Kefee's publicist
The committee would plan towards befitting burial events in Lagos and Sapele and some of the proposed activities were a symposium and Service of Songs tagged 'An Evening With Kefee' in Lagos.

There would also be a documentary of the singer's life and times; performances of her songs by other artists; Kefee memorial merchandise and a tribute concert in Sapele.
Kefee's husband, Teddy Don-Momoh, monitored the proceedings of the meeting from the U.S. where he is preparing to fly home the body of his wife.

He once again pleaded for the privacy of the family to be respected in these trying times.
He observed that some of the stories written about Kefee since her death were mostly untrue and cited the reports of a pregnancy which didn't exist and the story that her body had been flown home as very insensitive and mischievous.

He also stressed that some reports that claimed that he was stranded in the U.S. and soliciting for financial help through a bank account were lies.

Teddy said that, customarily, he would have to return home to Nigeria first, to be on ground to receive the body of his wife which would then follow afterwards.

He said he was finalising the required paperwork before Kefee's body could be flown from the U.S. to Nigeria and once those were done, more details of the burial plans would be released.
Teddy said that Kefee's family had requested that she be buried in their hometown, Okpara-Inland, Ethiope East local government, with a celebratory service in Sapele afterwards and that he was comfortable with that.

Those, according to him, were the only definite arrangements for his wife's burial so far.
Kefee whose real name was Irikefe Don-Momoh (nee Obareki) was a well-liked Pop-Gospel artist who had been active in the entertainment industry for the past ten years. She was born on Feb. 5, 1980 in Sapele, Delta State and was known as the Branama Queen, in reference to her debut hit track and album, 'Branama'. She also scored a hit with the track, 'Kokoroko', featuring Timaya and had four albums to her credit— 'Branama' (2003), 'Branama 2' (2005), 'A Piece of Me' (2009) and 'Chorus Leader' in 2013.

A Condolence Register has been opened for the singer at her restaurant, Branama Kitchen, at 11 Ajose Str., Mende, Maryland, Lagos.

Photos: Man arrested for buring mother, daughter alive in Ogun state
6/24/2014 8:34:00 AM

The Lagos state Police Command yesterday June 22nd at the Force Headquarters in Ikeja Lagos paraded a 64-year-old native doctor Alhaji Azeez Olatunji for killing retired customs officer, Mrs Angela Uzo Kerry and her 10 year old daughter, Obiajurum (both pictured above) by burying them alive on May 17th at his home in Ire Akari Crescent, Ajuwon Akute, Ogun State.

Alhaji Azeez, an indigine of Oyo state with three wives and five children, had served as a trado-medical doctor to late Mrs Kerry who was looking for a child as the young girl killed with her was an adopted child. Continue...

Alhaji Azeez (pictured above) claimed he initially told the late Mrs Kerry that he would not be able to help her in having a child because of her age but she remained adamant that he must help her as other prophets had told her she would be able to have a child of her own. Trouble started between them after he collected the sum of N9million from her for concoctions for pregnancy which failed. She asked for a refund and in the process threatened to kill him. He said he had to kill her so she does end up killing him
"I have been a trado-medical doctor for about 30 years, but I knew Angela over five years ago. She initially came to me for protection from family attacks. One of her friends called Lizzy introduced her to me. The relationship began to grow, and she kept patronizing me for one thing or the other. Then, about three years ago, she mentioned her barrenness problem, adding that the daughter that was with her was adopted. I was shocked. But when she told me her age, I told her it was impossible to make her pregnant. But she insisted that prophets in the churches she went had assured her she would get pregnant".
Due to much pressure from her, Alhaji Azeez then pretended he could help her with a child and demanded N9million from her
"I did the normal concoction for her, but it didn't work because of her age. But I collected the money because I knew if I did not, she would go to where they would collect it. After some months without result, she came to my place to complain. She then demanded a refund, but I told her that I could not repay it. She then began to threaten me. Within a month, I tried to repay N2.5m. On that fateful week, she came back for the remaining N6.5m. It was Saturday, May 17. She came with her daughter and insisted that she wanted her balance. She said as a retired customs officer, she could kill me if I didn't pay back the money. Then I thought, I must kill this woman before she killed me. The hole at the back of my house was not built for killing. It was dug for drainage during rainfall. After we talked, we moved with her daughter to the place. I said she should kneel down on the mat with her daughter( he already covered the hole with a mat and white cloth to look like a shrine). She did so and fell into the pit with her daughter. The operation was successful because no member of my family was around in the house. I then began to cover the pit up with sand. I poured in roughly 50 buckets of sand. The following day, I got two bricklayers to cement the portion. But I had first taken out the belongings she brought".
The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Umar Manko, while parading him said late Mrs Kerry was declared missing on May 10th at the Oko Oba Police station in Lagos and with the help of the tracking device on her car, the Police was able to trace her car to a dealer who confessed the vehicle was brought to him for sale by Alhaji Olatunji Azeez

"Azeez was eventually arrested through a tracking device installed on the victim's Toyota Camry. Azeez, an herbalist, had hypnotized the woman for a long time. He had taken over N200m from her both in cash and property. We discovered he cleverly constructed a well in his house, lured the woman with her daughter into the room, and buried them alive. We were able to recover the decomposed bodies of the victims from the well. We also picked their property which was buried along with them. We have finished our investigations, and he will be charged to court for murder. We will leave the rest to be decided by the court." Police Commissioner Manko said
